Since June 7, the western end of Lake Shore Boulevard West has been served by buses instead of streetcars. The TTC's posted end date for that arrangement is Saturday, October 31, and the TTC labels it "subject to change." The next evening, Sunday, November 1, the Mimico Pumpkin Parade lights up Mimico Square. Through mid-December, every community date on this strip falls on one side of that line or the other. The October events happen on replacement buses. The November and December events could be the first ones in months that you reach by streetcar again, if the TTC holds its date.
What October Has Been Running On
The TTC's Long Branch Loop project page describes a state-of-good-repair job. It covers the streetcar tracks at Long Branch Loop and the west intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard West and Browns Line. Work began in June and is described as continuing through late 2026. The streetcar loop is closed for the work. The Long Branch Bus Loop has stayed open.
Here is how the TTC's temporary service is set up for this fall:
| Service | What it does during construction |
|---|---|
| 507 Long Branch replacement bus | Long Branch Loop to Humber Loop, running via Park Lawn Road and The Queensway in both directions |
| 507M Humber Bay Shores shuttle | Marine Parade Drive at Silver Moon Drive to Humber Loop |
| 301L Queen replacement bus | Overnight, Long Branch Loop to Dufferin Gate Loop |
| 501A Queen streetcar | Late evenings, Neville Park to Humber |
The 501C is suspended for the duration of the work. East of Humber Loop, transit blogger Steve Munro reports that 508 Lake Shore service came back on September 8, running between Humber Loop and the Distillery District.
The heaviest phase was scheduled for September 28 to October 18. In that phase, the TTC's construction notice called for track replacement between Long Branch Loop and Browns Line, then at the Browns Line intersection itself. The notice also flagged lane reductions, pedestrian and bicycle detours, and possible overnight work. The project page says crews work around the clock during rail installation so the new rail and fresh concrete set properly, and that some overnight noise during this phase is unavoidable.
The end date matters more than the construction phase. The October 18 finish is for construction, and the notice does not promise streetcars that day. The TTC's Fall 1 service summary covers September 6 to October 31 and still lists the 507 streetcar as temporarily suspended. As of October 12, no TTC source confirms the day streetcars return to Long Branch Loop. October 31 is the date posted, with the caveat attached.
The October Evenings Still on the Bus Side
Three dated community events remain before the posted end of the shutdown on Halloween. All three are within walking distance of Lake Shore, and the Mimico Residents Association's September newsletter, published for its 20th anniversary, lists each of them.
- Wednesday, October 21, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Mimico Library. Green Mimico is hosting a workshop on protecting homes from basement flooding. The first confirmed speaker is Dr. Blair Feltmate of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation at the University of Waterloo. He will cover practical, cost-effective steps for homeowners and renters. The MRA asked people to register early because it expects a full auditorium.
- Friday, October 23, 6 to 8 p.m., David Hornell School. The MRA's Halloween Family Dance costs $5.
- Saturday, October 24, 1 to 3:30 p.m., Lakeshore Arts, 2422 Lake Shore Blvd. W. This is the last session of the free Printmaking Community Hub, led by artists Jennie Davis and Amara King, with all materials provided. Like every Lakeshore Arts hub, it is drop-in, family-friendly and open to all skill levels.
- Saturday, October 31. Halloween, and the last day of the TTC's posted service-change window.
The other events on the October calendar have already happened. The 5th Annual Mimico Fall Fest filled Mimico Square at 2435 Lake Shore Blvd. W. on October 10 with artisans, baked goods and crafts. Friends of Humber Bay Park held its fall cleanup the next morning. That makes the three dates above the last community events of the season that fall inside the posted bus-only window.
November 1 at Amos Waites Park
The Mimico Pumpkin Parade runs Sunday, November 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Mimico Square in Amos Waites Park, and the MRA credits the Mimico By The Lake BIA for it. The idea is to bring your jack-o'-lantern back out the night after Halloween for one more evening on display.
The MRA's listing includes one practical detail. Volunteers will be on hand, but you bring your own candles or tea lights, and they cannot be in glass containers. The event's Facebook page carries the updates.
If the TTC's posted October 31 date holds, the Pumpkin Parade would be the first community evening on Lake Shore since early June that could be reached by streetcar from Long Branch. The TTC has not confirmed a restoration date, though. If the date slips, the 507 replacement bus still runs the full Long Branch Loop to Humber Loop route along Lake Shore.
What the Shutdown Leaves Behind on the Strip
The track work is the main job, but the project page lists two other upgrades that will remain once the buses are gone.
- The parkette walkway between Long Branch Loop and Long Branch GO Station is being upgraded as part of the job. That path links the streetcar to the GO train.
- Stops along Lake Shore Boulevard West are getting rail and concrete repairs and overhead upgrades. Crews are doing that work at multiple stops while service is suspended.
Several new places to eat opened on the strip over the summer while the streetcar was out. Restaurant writer Stephanie Dickison's weekly openings roundups recorded three of them.
- Café Delicia, 3341 Lakeshore Blvd. W. A European-inspired café serving macarons, meringues, mousse cakes and matcha, listed in her July 30 roundup.
- Clay1Grill, 3308 Lakeshore Blvd. W., Unit 6. An Indian-fusion restaurant whose menu includes butter-chicken mac and cheese, listed in her July 23 roundup.
- Urban Delhi, 3747 Lake Shore Blvd. W. North Indian dishes in the space that used to be Tale Indian Cuisine and Bar, listed in the same July 30 roundup.
All three addresses are on the stretch the 507 replacement bus has been covering since June.
One waterfront project is not on this fall's calendar. The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority's Humber Bay Park East study is looking at ways to improve recreation, access, safety and comfort along that shoreline while keeping its erosion protection. Public feedback closed August 11, and TRCA says it is reviewing the submissions. It has not announced a final design or a construction schedule.
Tuesdays Through December 8, With a Parade on the 5th
On the November side of the line, the calendar slows to one weekly event and one big day.
The weekly event is the Song Circle at Lakeshore Arts, 2422 Lake Shore Blvd. W., run by members of Toronto Community Singing. It meets Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through December 8. It is free, drop-in and open to all voices, and it returns February 2 for a spring run that goes to May 18. After the Pumpkin Parade, it is the only standing community event on the strip with confirmed 2026 dates.
The big day is Saturday, December 5. The Etobicoke-Lakeshore Santa Claus Parade lists that day at 10 a.m. as its "2026 Parade Date," and the route map is posted on the same page. By then the TTC's posted window will have been closed for five weeks. The project page still describes the overall work as running "through late 2026," though, so check the TTC's service advisories the week before.
Other holiday dates on the strip have not been confirmed. The Mimico By The Lake BIA lists a Winter Tree Lighting among its annual events but had not posted a 2026 date as of this writing. The New Toronto Holiday Market's event page still shows details from 2024. As of October 12, the full late-fall calendar in writing is a pumpkin parade on November 1, Song Circle on Tuesdays, and a Santa Claus Parade on December 5.
